History brought back to life

The Brown v. Board of Education case in 1954 marked a milestone in the fight for civil rights and against racial segregation in the United States. Despite its historical significance, there were no audio recordings of the hearings—only transcripts.

Professor Jerry Goldman, the creator of the OYEZ project—a multimedia database dedicated to the U.S. Supreme Court—set an ambitious goal: to recreate these lost audio recordings using artificial intelligence (AI) and bring back the original voices of the key figures.

To achieve this vision, Goldman partnered with Idib Group and Spooler, a company specializing in interactive audio. Spooler played a crucial role in the project, handling post-production for the AI-generated audio, editing, and mastering to ensure maximum quality and fidelity to the original voices.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of the landmark decision, Goldman and Spooler collaborated with Idib Group to create an immersive digital experience.

A design that combines past and present

Idib Group's challenge was to design a website that would allow users to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the process as if they were present in the classroom. Through in-depth research on contemporary design trends, we created an interface that elegantly combines historical elements with a modern and captivating style.

The result is a digital experience that pays homage to the past while remaining accessible and engaging for today's audience.

Interactions and animations for total engagement

To make the experience even more immersive, the Idib Group team meticulously crafted the site's interactions and animations. Every click, every scroll was designed to guide the user through history, as if they were flipping through a historical document.

Special attention was given to accessibility, ensuring that the content was usable by all, regardless of abilities or devices used.

A project that makes waves

Idib Group's work on Brown Revisited caught the attention of the media, with dedicated articles in prestigious publications such as The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, and The ABA Journal. These accolades testify to the cultural impact of the project and its ability to provoke reflection on still crucial issues today, such as equity in education and the fight against segregation.

Brown Revisited was also at the center of an important conference, "Establishing a National Agenda for Meeting the Promise of Brown v. Board: 70 Years Later," which brought together some of the most authoritative education experts to assess the state of education for African Americans 70 years after the historic ruling.

An unbreakable link between past and future

With the launch of the Brown Revisited website, timed for the 70th anniversary of the ruling, Professor Goldman saw his dream come true: making a crucial moment in American history accessible to everyone. Thanks to the work of Idib Group and Spooler, these voices from the past can now be heard by new generations, bridging the struggles of yesterday with today's challenges.

Brown Revisited is not just a digital archive but a living monument to the fight for equality and justice, continuing to inspire and stimulate public debate. The project's success demonstrates the power of design and technology to create meaningful experiences, capable of bringing the past to life to illuminate the present and build a better future.
