Luxury e-commerce redesign focused on UX and conversion rate optimization
Maui Jim, a renowned luxury eyewear brand, launched a comprehensive e-commerce redesign to elevate its user experience design and improve conversion rates across all devices—especially mobile. Partnering with Idib Group, the brand's design agency since 2015, the project marked a significant step forward in delivering a premium, high-performing digital shopping experience tailored to the needs of luxury consumers.

Co-design and UX strategy for luxury e-commerce
Idib Group applied a co-design methodology, involving the Maui Jim team in key stages of the creative process—from moodboard creation to visual direction. This collaborative approach ensured that every design choice supported both the brand identity and core user needs. The UX design process was iterative and data-informed, with multiple workshops and feedback loops aligning the e-commerce experience with business goals and luxury retail expectations.

Mobile-first e-commerce optimization to drive conversions
A central challenge emerged from the analytics: while 61% of traffic came from mobile, only 45% of purchases happened on mobile devices. This revealed a critical gap in the mobile-first e-commerce experience. Through detailed analysis, Idib Group found that product pages (PDP) and category landing pages (CLP) had up to 5x lower mobile conversion rates than desktop. The solution: a redesigned, mobile-optimized UX that enhanced navigation, reduced friction, and supported better

Visual design for a seamless luxury brand experience
The visual overhaul was essential to align the site with Maui Jim’s premium image. The team moved away from the previous green-based palette, introducing a refined color scheme tailored to the brand’s visual identity and user expectations. Partnering with SUBSENSE, specialists in visual design for digital products, Idib Group created a look and feel that combined elegance with clarity. Rounded call-to-action buttons, streamlined components, and purposeful use of whitespace contributed to both usability and aesthetic coherence across the platform—key aspects of user experience design in luxury e-commerce.

Optimizing the checkout flow to reduce friction
Redesigning the checkout flow was a core aspect of improving performance. Idib Group conducted a deep dive into friction points and cart abandonment triggers. The new design minimized steps, optimized content hierarchy, and introduced visual reassurance at key decision points. This checkout optimization helped reduce drop-offs and contributed directly to higher purchase completion rates—an essential move in improving checkout flow in e-commerce.

Results: improved mobile UX and higher conversion rates
The new design delivered measurable impact across several key performance areas. The conversion rate on mobile PDP and CLP pages increased up to 5x, directly addressing one of the project's central challenges. The streamlined checkout reduced abandonment, while the mobile-first approach ensured consistency between desktop and mobile performance. The result is a luxury e-commerce design that not only reflects the Maui Jim brand but also drives results.
